Deal golfer Karen Stupples has had to make a 1,500-mile drive from the UK to represent England in the European Nations Cup women's golf tournament in Alicante, Spain.

Stupples flew in from her Florida home just before the massive aeroplane disruption, caused by the volcano in Iceland. But she was then unable to fly on to Spain, and so had to take ferry and road route from Calais instead.

Her mum Eileen, who lives in James Hall Gardens, Deal, said: "Her plane from Florida was one of the last long-haul flights to land at Heathrow on Thursday night (April 15) before they closed the airport.

"She then had to work out how to get to Spain and my brother Geoffrey, who lives in Sittingbourne, said he would drive her down there. They got an early ferry on Sunday morning and and arrived at Alicante late on Monday evening.”
