Dover lifeboat and firefighter crews pitched together in a fundraising car wash day

Dover firefighters and lifeboat crews pitched in to washing grubby cars in a bid to
raise cash for the RNLI’s national fundraising day on Saturday.

Named SOS Day, the event allowed staff, volunteers and supporters of the services to get involved in raising lifesaving funds.

All the stops were pulled to ensure the necessary cash was raised in Dover, as both crews were in Asda carpark, Charlton Green, scrubbing down as many cars as possible by 10.30am.

Labour parliamentary candidate Clair Hawkins pulled up and got her red Fiat 500 washed and in doing so, was amazed to hear how determined the crews were.

She said: “It was great to see such a big team of volunteers from Dover RNLI and Dover Fire & Rescue out fundraising for our local lifeboat on Saturday.

“Some of the RNLI guys had been out at sea on a shout until 4:30am, then were out cleaning cars at 10am.

“Dover is full of heroes, and our lifeboat crew and our firefighters are some of the best. They need and deserve our full support.”

Lifeboat operations manager Ray Couzens added: “We raised £739.43 in total, with £250 coming from the car wash.

“All in all, we did well, and we are very pleased with what we have got. The crews did extremely well, and thanks to Kent Fire and Rescue.”
