Chairman Mark Goldberg is part of Welling United's new management team

Welling chairman Mark Goldberg will take a more hands-on role after appointing his new coaching team.

The Wings were on the lookout for a new management team after previous boss Steve King left the club by mutual consent last Friday - just halfway through a two-year contract, despite leading Welling to the National League South play-off final.

Hugo Langton has been installed as Welling's first-team coach with Paul Barnes and Osei Sankofa also returning to Park View Road in the new structure as assistant coaches.

Goldberg will work closely with newly-appointed director of football Garry Fiore, who is also the club's joint academy director.

Goldberg said: "Following Steve King’s departure as manager we have looked at a number of options but feel that at this moment in time it is prudent to make better use of the resources available to us within the club’s hierarchy.

"With this in mind we have made the decision to appoint Garry Fiore (who is currently our joint academy director) as director of football to work closely with me so I can assume more of the football team management responsibilities whilst I still remain as chairman.

"Garry and I will work together with my newly appointed coaching staff to take on the responsibility of player recruitment and the coaching of the first team and most importantly to help bring through the great young talent that is currently being developed by our thriving scholarship and youth academy programme."

Welling reduced their budget midway through last season although they still managed to retain their place in the play-offs under King's stewardship.

Goldberg confirmed that they will again be operating on a tight budget in what is likely to be a highly-competitive National League South.

"We will be announcing some player signings later this week which will demonstrate that whilst we will be operating on a reduced budget it is still our absolute intention to be very competitive with the aim of pushing above halfway hopefully within sight of the play-offs," he added.

"I hope the supporters will get behind the new regime and the new squad for the forthcoming season where we will at least show the highest commitment to maintain your support."
