KENT publican Andy Fordham is on top of the world after winning the BDO World Darts title at the Lakeside on Sunday night.

The man nicknamed The Viking finally lifting the BDO version of the world crown at the 10th attempt beating Mervyn King 6-3 in the final.

Fordham, originally from Essex, runs The Rose public house in Overy Street at Dartford. He had never reached the final before despite four appearances at the last-four stage.

He and King were locked together at 3-3 sets all before Fordham opened up a two-set lead to put him tantalisingly close to victory.

King won the first two legs but Fordham roared back to level the set and then made his dreams come true as he blew King away with some heavy scoring and sank double eight to win the title.
