Welling United forward George Porter did not expect England C training camp call-up

George Porter has admitted an England C call-up has caught him by surprise.

It’s an amazing turnaround for former Cray Wanderers and Leyton Orient youngster Porter, who ended last season at Ryman League champions Maidstone.

“When I signed I was just concentrating on getting back playing football regularly , getting a run of games together and trying to find my form from when I was younger,” said Porter.

“I’ve been speaking to Corney about it and can’t wait.

“It will be good to meet up with the other lads, it’s something different and hopefully it goes well.

“It’s a training camp so I’ll give it my best shot and do well.”

Porter is still searching for his first goal in a Welling shirt, but is refusing to let his poor luck in front of goal get to him.

“I don’t know what I’ve done,” joked Porter. “I have to think that it will go in.

“If it plays on your mind and you think about it as soon as you step on the pitch then you are not going to get away from it.

“If I’m not thinking about it and just keep getting in the box then hopefully one will go in off my shin!”
