Charlton manager Phil Parkinson set the record straight once and for all over mounting speculation that striker Chris Dickson will join Gillingham before the January transfer window shuts at the weekend.

Gills boss Mark Stimson confirmed the club's interest in the transfer-listed 24-year-old, who joined the Addicks from Ryman League Dulwich Hamlet for £35,000 in March 2007, expressing a wish to bring him to Priestfield following last season's successful loan spell with the club.

After watching Dickson make an instant impact after coming on as a 75th minute substitute and nearly creating a second goal for the Addicks in Tuesday's 1-0 derby win against Crystal Palace, Parkinson put the issue to bed.

He said: "I keep being asked about Chris Dickson's future at this club so I'm going to say this one last time.

"There is absolutely no way that Chris Dickson is going to Gillingham. End of story and I won't entertain any more questions on the subject."

Parkinson hopes to do business before the window closes and has been strongly linked with Hull City central defender Wayne Brown, who played under him at Colchester.

Charlton want to sign him on loan, providing Hull do not find a buyer.

"We need to strengthen the squad and the defeat of Crystal Palace was pivotal for the board who will look at the situation and see that we've got a chance."

The need to sign a centre-back increased with the news that Jonathan Fortune will be out for weeks with a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained on Tuesday.
