Nigerian trip for soccer coaches

DARENT RIVER Football Club, an FA Charter Standard junior side from the Dartford area, have accepted an invitation to send two FA Level 2 coaches to Nigeria next month.

The idea is the brainchild of parent Manny Amgbaduba, a Nigerian prince from the Delta State region whose two sons play for Darent River’s under-8 and under-9 teams.

Mark Hutchins, who helped form Darent River FC, and fellow club coach Terry Donovan, will spend two weeks in Nigeria working with primary school children in the Delta State region.

Hutchins said: "Manny approached us and asked if we were interested. At first we thought it was a wind-up but when the tickets arrived we realised it was for real.

"Apparently, the Delta State region first approached Charlton and then came to us. We’re looking forward to the challenge.

"It’s going to be an eye-opener. We’ve been told that we’ll have an armed escort wherever we go and I’m glad that Manny will be accompanying us."

They depart on February 5 and a diary of the trip will be posted on the Darent River website – www.intheteam.com/darentriverfc.
