John Moules is seeking election as the new chairman of the Ryman League at Sunday's annual meeting at Wembley.

The 62-year-old ex-Kent referee and former chief executive of both Ebbsfleet United and the Football Conference is in a straight fight with present vice-chairman Nick Robinson to succeed Alan Turvey, who is standing down after three decades in the post. The 81-year-old, another former man-in-black, is continuing as president.

Mr Moules, who also worked for a time as a football consultant, said: "I have experience of the whole National League System with the Conference and as secretary of the Kent Invicta League, the youngest Step 6 League in the country.

"I have seen the best of both worlds, I understand it, have looked at it, and seen it from top to bottom."

Mr Moules is now working as a cover supervisor with 11 to 18-year-olds at Trinity School in Belvedere, which he describes as "very rewarding".

The former man-in-the-middle, who spent 15 years as a Contributory League official, said: "I have spent the last four or five years working as a match assessor in the same competitions and have been approached by a number of clubs to stand for election.

"I believe I have got something to offer. Everything needs a new pair of eyes and refreshing at some point."
