West Hill FC are heading to Wembley less than a year after they were formed.

The South London Alliance League side, from Dartford, entered this summer’s FA Umbro 5-a-side tournament as a pre-season and team-bonding exercise but they ended up with a trip of a lifetime – despite being eliminated in the group stages.

They were one of eight teams drawn from 1,700 eliminated competitors and will now play alongside the main event in the Lucky 8 Finals on November 23.

Dean Marchant, from Dartford, formed the club in March and his team will get a new kit, a tour of Wembley, 10 minutes in the dressing rooms and most importantly the chance to play at the home of English football.

Marchant said: “We just want to enjoy it, take it all in, play a bit of football and hopefully score on the pitch.

“It’s going to be good but it won’t sink in until we are out there on the pitch.

“I’ve picked the best people from the squad to win but we probably won’t.”

West Hill sent three teams to the summer five-a-side competition, and Marchant now has the task of picking eight players for the trip to Wembley.

Marchant said: “I have just had to pick my best team – and me, because I’m not the best!”
