DARTFORD Judo Club founder and head coach Alan Roberts has led the junior England team to a medal haul at the Judo Commonwealth Championships in Mauritius.

The squad were coached to glory by Roberts, pictured. The eight juniors, including Toni Prince who trains at Dartford, finished top of the junior medal chart winning six golds and a silver and bronze. They won eight medals the following day in the senior competition, including two golds and three silvers.

Elsewhere, Francesca Steggall, Craig Holmes and Taylor Bell are representing the club in the new world class talent squad. The aim of the call-up, which involves an elite training programme and competition, is to maximise potential in the run-up to London 2012.

The talent squad will receive additional training and competition activity beyond the start squad to which the club’s Julia Zebala, Amelia Cook, Heather Stewart, Bradley Love, Shane Tyler, Benjamin Wood-Gluck, Michael Stewart and Casey Belsey belong.
