JULIE DUNKLEY: season's best

HOT and sticky conditions favoured the sprinters and field eventers at the Norwich Union AAA Championships and World Trials at Sportcity in Manchester at the weekend.

Julie Dunkley from Dartford retained her shot putt title in emphatic fashion with a season's best of 16.14 metres, competing for Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.

Chris Gearing also found his best form of the season in his first senior AAA championships at 18 years old with 16.96 metres in the men's shot, representing Belgrave Harriers.

The track highlight for Kent was Lisa Dobriskey's brave attempt at achieving the World Student Games qualifying time of 4 minutes 12 seconds in the 1500m.

The Ashford athlete was on target in second place for much of the race but a recent virus left her weakened and she faded to fifth in 4 minutes 15.22 seconds.
