Charlton's planned season-long loan signing of former favourite Linvoy Primus from Portsmouth was called off after Pompey boss Harry Redknapp refused to sanction the deal.

The 35-year-old central defender was due at Charlton's training ground on Wednesday before Redknapp intervened by insisting that he would only allow Primus to stay until December.

Primus, who recently signed a new one-year deal at Fratton Park, has not played for more than 18 months after undergoing surgery for a severe knee injury and would not have been available for the Addicks match at Preston on Saturday.
