Charlton fell to another away defeat as hosts Walsall claimed a vital three points in their bid for League One survival.

Goals in either half by Will Grigg and Julian Gray condemned Chris Powell's side to defeat.

Paul Benson went close to giving the Addicks the lead but his header hit the post and bounced to safety.

Grigg put the Saddlers ahead on 34 minutes when he found some space inside the area and fired past the recalled Rob Elliot in the Charlton goal.

Jordan Cook also saw an effort hit the crossbar for the hosts before Elliot parried out a Jon Macken shot to Gray who slotted in to seal the points 12 minutes from time.

Charlton drop to 14th with defeat and Walsall still remain in relegation trouble despite climbing out of the drop zone and moving a point ahead of Dagenham & Redbridge, who occupy the last relegation spot.

Wallsall need a win at Southampton on the final day of the season to guarantee their League One status.
