Video of car fire on M20 near Wrotham

A video has captured the moment a car was engulfed by fire on a Kent motorway today.

The film, taken this afternoon, shows flames and huge plumes of smoke coming from the car on the coastbound carriageway of the M20 between Junction 1 for the Swanley Interchange and Junction 2 for Wrotham.

Firefighters were called at 6.13pm to tackle the blaze.

A spokesman for the service confirmed the vehicle was completely destroyed but no one was injured and crews left the scene at 6.48pm.

Justin Brazill, a passenger in another car on the motorway, captured the video and says the car was "engulfed in flames".

He said: "I was on my way home when I saw black smoke."

"When we got closer I saw a car in flames, getting closer the car was engulfed in flames.

"I did see people standing on the hard shoulder and I do hope the driver and passengers, if any, are okay and no injuries to anyone."

The car appears to be a Mini Cooper and all emergency services have been contacted for further details of the incident.
