Perhaps the most disappointing thing about our draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Monday night was that we conceded from a set-piece again.

We’ve conceded five goals so far this season and, of those, four have stemmed from set-pieces.

It’s something we’ve got to work on because it isn’t good enough if you’re aiming to be at the top of the league. Defending set-pieces is about being organised, knowing your positions and working as a team, and we can’t afford to concede sloppy goals.

One positive we can take is that we’re not letting teams work hard enough to score against us in open play, and we’re not being torn apart, but we must improve when defending corners and free-kicks.

I felt particularly hard done by after Clinton Morrison’s equaliser because, straight before their corner, he elbowed me in the face.

I thought the linesman must have seen it, but he said he didn’t – even though it was right in front of him.

Good luck to Morrison, though - that’s how football works.

Having left Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, it was a big game for me, but it was also a big game for the lads.

I’m sure Wednesday will be one of our main rivals for promotion this season, and we have to show our best against such sides.

We started well and forced them to make a tactical change within 20 minutes, but we couldn’t make our first-half dominance pay with a second goal.

We were a bit patchy in the second half, and we never got the ball down and passed it as much as we would have liked.

When I heard Charlton were interested in me over the summer, I was immediately ready to go - and then I saw all these big names being signed, players who are on the up in their careers and wanting to prove a point.

I worked with Chris Powell at Leicester and I played alongside him there, which makes me seem older than I am!

The gaffer has the right mix here. I knew how he would work and it will only get better as the lads gel together more.

There was a lot of negativity when I played at Hillsborough last season.

It’s great that the fans have been behind the lads so much this season. We’ve been doing well, and it’s our job to get them going.

They’ve been great, especially at Colchester when there were a lot of them, and the few hundred who made the long trip up to Bury.

We’ve been good on the road, but we know we need to make the most of our matches at The Valley as well, and we’re targeting all three points against Exeter on Saturday.
