Children’s charity We Are Beams needs public votes to secure a £25,000 donation from West Kent Freemasons.

As part of the Freemasons’ 300th anniversary celebrations, the Masonic Charitable Foundation is distributing £3 million to 300 charities across the UK, and We Are Beams is in contention for a share.

Formerly known as Parents Consortium, and the Messenger’s 2016 Charity of the Year, We Are Beams supports disabled children and their families by offering a short-stay unit, day trips, and activities for the long summer holiday.

The charity will receive a £4,000 grant just for being nominated, but could get up to £25,000 depending on how many votes it receives from the public.

Fundraising and marketing manager Caroline Brinkman said: “A £25,000 donation would make a huge difference to our disabled children.

“We will plan some great activities for young people so they have something to look forward to in the long summer holidays.

“These children don’t go on family holidays or trips to the local swimming pool.

“They need our help to get out and do simple things that others take for granted.

“I would urge anyone and everyone to go online and vote for Beams. Remember that every single vote counts and it will only take two minutes of your time.”

The Masonic Charitable Foundation obtains all its funding from Freemasons and their families.

Votes for the grants to be awarded can be cast until Monday, July 31.
