Tributes pour in for Dartford cricketer

A cricket club has paid tribute to former Dartford, Kent and England star Graham Dilley who died yesterday aged 52.

Mr Dilley (right), who was born in Dartford, rose through the ranks at Dartford Cricket Club.

Although a fearsome bowler, he is perhaps best known for a valuable 56 with the bat as he helped England beat Australia at Headingley during the 1981 Ashes win.

Former teammates have described him as an "exceptional cricketer" who was destined to play at the highest level.

Chairman of Dartford cricket club Jim Lowrie said the club are now planning to commemorate Mr Dilley.

He said: "On behalf of the club I would like to express our deepest condolences to Graham's family and friends."
