A drug-taking thief who stole wine, milk and tampons from a shop was found with crack cocaine and cannabis on her when police arrested her for shoplifting.

April Piddington popped into the Co-op store in Greenhithe twice over two days to pilfer groceries from inside.

The 34-year-old first went in to the shop on February 15 to steal the wine, milk and tampons before returning the next day when she took two more bottles of wine valued at £15.

After the thefts were discovered, Piddington was arrested and when officers carried out a search of her home they found weed and crack cocaine.

She was charged with two counts of shoplifting, possession of cannabis and possession of crack cocaine and pleaded guilty to the offences when she appeared before magistrates in Medway on March 29.

The court heard Piddington of Bevis Close, Stone, Dartford, was on a community order she'd been given for other offences when she carried out the thefts.

Magistrates were also told she was found with 0.16g of crack cocaine and 9g of cannabis when officers arrested her on February 23.

James Nichols prosecuting said: "The drugs were found on her when she was arrested and she was on a community order she'd been given in October last year for assault on an emergency worker and shoplifting."

Magistrates decided to revoke the community order Piddington was on and place her on a new one which will see her complete 36 rehabilitation sessions with probation.

She was also fined £50 and ordered to pay £15 compensation to the Co-op store and £85 court costs.

Magistrates also ordered the drugs be destroyed.
