Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards gives thumbs-up emoji on Instagram and Twitter to The Glimmer Twins statues in Dartford

Rock legend Keith Richards has given the thumbs-up to statues of him and Sir Mick Jagger.

The Glimmer Twins were unveiled yesterday at One Bell Corner, in Dartford High Street, as a tribute to the two Rolling Stones, who grew up in the town.

Crowds of people gathered in the town centre to catch the first glimpse of the bronze figures, including Richards’ daughter Angela and granddaughter Ava, but the famous stars themselves did not attend despite being invited by the council.

Mick Jagger is rumoured to be partying with Wolf of Wall Street actor Leonardo DiCaprio off Ibiza on a $150 million yacht.

Speaking to KentOnline about what her dad would think of the statues, Angela Richards said: “He would love it. He would absolutely love this and be really proud, I am sure.”

And it seems they have his seal of approval as the musician posted a picture of the sculptures on his social media platforms Instagram and Twitter.

The image was captioned with two thumbs-up emojis.

The post on Richards’ Instagram page @officialkeef has since had more than 43,230 likes and around 770 comments from the star’s 1.4 million followers.

One said: “That is a wonderful tribute from your home town.”

Another added: “How cool is this! Just more reason to visit your birthplace.”

A third read: “This is wonderful. You and Mick look so good, and the tribute is well-deserved. Congratulations.”

The Glimmer Twins, created by sculptor Amy Goodman, capture the pair mid-performance.

They were commissioned by Dartford council and the £130,000 cost was paid for with a public art contribution from Bellway London’s Copperhouse Green Development, in Lowfield Street.

The rock legends started from humble beginnings in Dartford and first met as pupils at Wentworth Primary School before going their separate ways.

Richards lived above a parade of shops in Chastilian Road while Jagger was raised just around the corner in Denver Road.

They famously met again at Dartford station in 1961 where they spoke about music as they waited for their train. A blue plaque was unveiled there in 2015.

They would eventually go on to answer an advert placed by Brian Jones for bandmates to form a new group called The Rolling Stones.

Keith and Mick have reportedly been known as the Glimmer Twins since 1974, when the pair were repeatedly quizzed at a party on board a boat off Brazil and a woman asked: “Can't you give us just a glimmer?”
