Seven vehicles in A2 crash

Up to seven vehicles, including a lorry, were involved in an accident which blocked the London-bound carriageway of the A2 and caused widespread delays during this morning's rush hour.

Two people were injured in the crash, which happened at the M25 junction near Bluewater. Ambulance and fire crews attended. The crash happened shortly after 7am. A second crash involving two cars happened in the tailbacks.

A2 delays warningDrivers have been warned about delays on the A2 as a massive road widening scheme enters a new phase. Vehicles queued for about 30 minutes on Tuesday morning to get through a new road layout which eases them onto a new London-bound stretch of the busy main road near Gravesend.

The work, which started in September 2006, is due to be completed at the end of this year. A 50mph speed limit is in place.
