The head teacher of Wilmington Grammar School has paid tribute to a student found hanged in a public park.

Police discovered the body Reece Burrowes, 17, in Danson Park, Bexleyheath at 8.15pm on Sunday December 6.

He was in his final year of sixth form at the school in Dartford, with head teacher Mr Andrew Williamson describing his potential as “amazing”.

“The school is deeply saddened by Reece’s sudden death,” he said.

“He was a quiet, hard-working and extremely popular young man who had achieved very well in his Year 12 AS exams and had amazing potential in front of him.”

“He enjoyed all the school had to offer and was well liked by others in his year group.”

“The school community, in particular his closest friends and the staff who taught Reece, are naturally very upset and the school is putting in all the immediate and long-term support that is required to help them through this most difficult time.”

A spokesman for Met Police said the death was not being currently treated as suspicious.

“At this early stage the death is believed to be non-suspicious, but is being treated as unexplained pending a post-mortem examination,” they said.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the death are being carried out by Bexley borough officers.”
