Policeman attacked by car driver

A MALE car driver who assaulted a police officer who was trying to carry out a breath test is being hunted.

The 25-year-old officer had stopped the car in Alamein Gardens, Dartford, at 5.20pm on Wednesday.

He suffered bruising to his face, eye and jaw as a result of the attack and had to be treated at Darent Valley Hospital.

The passenger in the car, a 39-year-old man from Dartford, was arrested by a second police officer, but the attacker is still being sought.

Deputy area commander, Chris Hogben, said: "This was a disgraceful and cowardly attack on one of my officers and I simply will not tolerate it. I eagerly anticipate an early arrest."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 01474 565220, or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
