Mayors' assistant 'serious' in hospital

Hospital chiefs say the condition of Colin Cloke, the personal assistant to Dartford's mayors, remains "stable but serious".

Mr Cloke fractured his skull in a freak accident while attending the Armistice Day ceremonies in Ypres last month.

He was initially treated by Belgian doctors but recently returned to Dartford's Darent Valley hospital once his condition stabilised.

Mr Cloke was on duty driving the leader of Dartford Borough Council, Cllr Jeremy Kite, to a wreath-laying ceremony when the accident happened.

He stepped back to avoid a bus in the Market Square in Ypres, caught his foot on a kerb and fell, striking his head.
