Northfleet man at Medway Magistrates’ Court after police called to Dartford High Street

A suspect is to appear in court charged with multiple offences following a disturbance involving an axe.

Police attended the scene in High Street, Dartford at 1.30pm on Sunday where the altercation took place.

Officers stopped and searched one suspect and he was subsequently arrested. He is alleged to have assaulted three of them.

The constables also seized an axe.

Matthew Howes, of Huntley Avenue, Northfleet was later charged with affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

The 33-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday).

Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or has mobile phone footage that may assist their enquiries, to call the appeal line on 01474 366149, quoting reference 46/205492/23.
