A life-size sculpture of The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has been unveiled in Dartford.

Striking his trademark pose, there is also a sculpture of a Vox amplifier, invented in Dartford in the 1950s, and a Dartford Warbler, a bird that takes its name from Dartford Heath where it was first spotted.

Pupils from Dartford Grammar School entered a competition to create pictures of Mick Jagger to be used on the bench which is in Central Park.

The bench is part of a national project to celebrate the work of Sustrans Connect2, which aims to transform everyday travel for local people in communities across the UK by extending the National Cycle Network.

In Dartford, Connect2 has helped to create new cycle paths to link the town with the surrounding countryside.

Cllr Kite said: "Dartford is very proud of its history and heritage, and this bench represents just three of the great things to have come out of the town.

"The bench provides a great place to stop for a rest whether you’re walking the whole of the Darent Valley Path or just strolling round Central Park."
