How the new Lowfield Street development could look
How the new Lowfield Street development could look

HUNDREDS of residents have spoken out on the £300million redevelopment plans for one of the most important roads in Dartford - Lowfield Street.

In 2006, plans submitted by St James Investments were rejected following a public inquiry.

Now new plans have been drawn up and, after consultation, have been submitted for the consideration of councillors and residents.

Reporter Keyan Milanian has been taking a closer look.

One of the main differences between this application and the last is the number of residential units planned for the development.

In 2003, the application included proposals to build 490 residential units.

These included 168 one-bedroom flats, 318 two-bedroom flats and four town houses.

This time around the plans will incorporate eight houses, 557 flats and maisonettes, and 82 bedsits and studios.

There will also be 279 flats and maisonettes which will be included as affordable housing; a total of 926 residential units.

The old scheme included residential blocks with a maximum height of 11 storeys.

Height

The current application's maximum height will be seven storeys.

The site spaces for the old and new applications have also changed considerably.

According to the publicly-available planning applications, the old Lowfield Street project covered an area of 14.64 hec- tares.

The new site consists of 5.4 hectares.
