Andrew Francis dialled 999 after noticing that a building, which used to be home to the Two Brewers, was on fire.

The 47-year-old from Temple Hill, who has been selling home fragrances in the town for the last four years, said: "I called the emergency services after I saw smoke while setting up my stall for the market just outside Greggs."

Kent Police also attended the scene after being called by Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS).

A spokesman said: "Police were called at 7.05am to a fire in a building in Lowfield Street, Dartford.

"Officers attended the scene and closed the road next to the premises while fire crews extinguished the blaze. The road has now reopened."

It's not yet known how much damage has been caused.

A KFRS spokesman said: "Crews were called to Lowfield Street in Dartford, to reports of a fire within a derelict former pub building.

"Five fire engines and a height vehicles attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames using hose reel jets."

There were no reported injuries, and the cause is being treated as suspicious.
