Drug dealer Namik Hysa, 18, locked up after being stopped in Swanley

A drug dealer who lied about his identity and gave officers a fake driving licence has been locked up.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that Namik Hysa was seen "driving erratically" in Swanley in July.

Officers instructed the 18-year-old to pull over and checks showed his Vauxhall Astra was uninsured.

When questioned Hysa provided police with a Romanian driving licence with someone else's name on it.

The 'nervous' teen attempted to flee when officers, suspicious of his demeanour, tried to search him. Once he was caught, he was found to be in possession of a bag containing 20 wraps of cocaine and cash totalling £200 which was seized.

Hysa, from Hampshire, was taken into police custody where he continued to insist he was the person described on the Romanian licence.

However, it became clear he was lying when officers brought in an interpreter and he was unable to understand the language. It was later revealed he was of Albanian descent.

Hysa pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply, driving without insurance and possession of a false document with improper intention.

On Friday he was sentenced to 18 months at a young offenders institution.

Detective Constable Bob Fursey said: "The sentencing of Namik Hysa is another example of how just how effective our officers continue to be, in identifying and tackling those who try to sell drugs within our communities.

"It is important to remain focused though and we are never complacent. There remains a lot of hard work to do, to deal with people like Hysa whose actions can really devastate people’s lives.

"Support from the public also remains invaluable in helping us detect and also deter criminals from operating in your local areas.

"If you see anything suspicious please don’t hesitate to contact police by calling 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
