Charlton are understood to have accepted an offer of £1.5m from Middlesbrough for skipper Nicky Bailey.

The former Southend and Barnet midfielder (pictured) has been linked with Norwich, Southampton and Celtic this summer but is understood to be set for a switch to the Riverside to link up with Gordon Strachan.

The 26-year-old has scored 13 goals in each of the last two seasons after arriving from Roots Hall, but will be allowed to leave the Addicks as a result of the club's failure to gain promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

It was Bailey who missed the decisive penalty in the League 1 play-off semi-final against Swindon which was decided on penalty kicks at the Valley last month.

Bailey's contract at the Valley still had a year to run but the club have decided to cash-in now.

Will Charlton miss Bailey next season? Who should replace him? Have your say below.
