Charlton's proud unbeaten home record finally came to an end on Monday night as they missed out on the chance to join Norwich and Leeds at the top of League 1.

A second-half header from former Addicks striker Scott McGleish condemned Phil Parkinson's side to their first defeat at The Valley for 10 months.

McGleish, who made six substitute appearances for the Addicks in the 1994/95 campaign, dived to head home a Sean Thornton cross with Charlton angrily claiming that there had been a foul in the build-up.

Those claims fell on deaf ears, and Ryan Jarvis hit the post for the visitors soon afterwards following a great turn on the edge of the box.

Addicks top scorer Deon Burton was denied close to the goalline by Orient skipper Ben Chorley at the end of the first half. Lloyd Sam and David Mooney also put good chances wide either side of the interval, but for once there were no late heroics from Charlton.
