Addicks boss Phil Parkinson had reason to smile as Charlton returned to winning ways in League 1 with a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town at The Valley.

Goals in either half from Sam Sodje and Izale McLeod came either side of an Anthony Pilkington equaliser for the Yorkshiremen.

Sodje headed the opening goal after only eight minutes following a Matt Spring corner from the left hand side.

Pilkington then levelled the scores before half time with a stunning free kick on 38 minutes. Matt Spring fouled Michael Collins on the edge of the area and Charlton keeper Rob Elliot could only watch and look as the free kick sailed past him.

However, the home side were back in front just four minutes after the break. McLeod headed home inside the area for his second goal of the season after Sodje knodded the ball across goal from a long ball.

The result means Charlton return to the top of the table with Leeds United a point behind them ahead of their clash with Norwich City on Monday night.

Charlton: Elliot, Richardson, Dailly, Sodje, Youga, Sam (Wagstaff 78 mins), Spring (Semedo 46 mins), Racon, Bailey, Burton , McLeod (Mooney 89 mins). Subs not used: Randolph, Llera, Shelvey, Solly.
