A plan to build 47 flats in Greenhithe has received more than 100 letters of objection.

The proposal from applicants Regent Land and Developments Ltd would see green space off Station Road transformed into a new development with off-street parking, communal amenity space and new vehicle access.

But many are determined to fight the scheme in an effort to save undeveloped areas in the town, with several letters outlining the need to save wildlife habitat.

One letter of objection noted a similar application was received last year, adding: "It worries me that local residents continue to object to this but the council allow for applications to be continued to put in for this land.

"Why not put some sort of safeguarding into this land to stop future applications? Do the residents' objections mean nothing to the council if they continue to allow new applications?"

Another stated: "I object to this development on the grounds that we already have too many new developments being consented to the detriment of local residents with a lack of doctors and health centres and a completely miserable and growing level of traffic.

"Greenhithe and Dartford is now a car park most days bringing misery to all affected. Please leave the Green in Greenhithe, our area has been destroyed with excessive development."

A planning statement on behalf of the applicants from Q Square Group Ltd concluded the scheme represented: "Redevelopment and optimisation of a vacant site which is underutilised, particularly noting

the highly sustainable nature of the site from a public transport perspective, adjacent to Greenhithe Train Station."

It added: "The site is a key one when arriving at Greenhithe via the Train Station. We consider that the proposed development provides the opportunity for a more appropriate announcement with a high quality design which provides activity and will enhance the area and improve the pedestrian experience, rather than the current unkempt and overgrown."
