Investigation into Swanley arson attacks in Sycamore Drive continues

An arsonist believed to be behind a spate of bin and storage room blazes in Swanley is still on the loose.

Officers launched an investigation after a total of six fires, believed to be linked, were reported in the space of a week in the Sycamore Drive area.

The latest attack happened in the early hours of the morning on June 29 when a skip and an electrical cupboard were targeted.

A man in his thirties was arrested the same day but has since been released without charge.

Frightened residents spoke out following the ordeal which saw a shielding couple's car engulfed in flames.

A series of similar incidents took place over the coming days, prompting the West Kent Housing Association, which owns properties in the area, to write to worried residents.

Police continue to appeal for information.

Detective Inspector Richard O’Toole said: "It is vital we identify anyone who may have been involved. This may be someone you know, who has been staying out late or who has come home smelling of petrol or smoke and is behaving differently."
