Bluewater Apple store runs out of iPhones after launch of new iPhone 5s

Hundreds queued up to get their hands on the new model iPhone 5s today... but many were turned away disappointed as the Bluewater Apple store sold out.

First in the queue was Jon Brydon of Surrey, who started to wait for the must-have gadget from 3pm yesterday.

The Bluewater store opened early today, at 8am, and the queue numbered around 400 at its peak.

It's believed the Greenhithe store sold out just over an hour after opening, but staff wouldn't confirm how many they were given.

The iPhone 5s is out in British stores today, with the "the gold standard in smartphones" costing up to £709 for the 64GB model.

It includes a fingerprint reader. There is also a lower-cost version - the iPhone 5c.
