"Don’t sit back and let this happen again next time it could be your dog or child."

A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: "We were called about this poor foal over the weekend and an officer attended as quickly as possible. Sadly, the foal was extremely weak, collapsed and suffering with a severe neck wound, and the decision was made to put him to sleep to stop his suffering. The owner is now aware.

"It is not clear how the injuries to the foal's neck were caused and we are keeping an open mind. Anybody with information about this foal can contact us on 0300 1234 999."
