POLICE today renewed their appeals for witnesses following a fatal accident in a supermarket car park in Dartford.

A 69-year-old pensioner died in front of her daughter after she was involved in a collision with a vehicle outside Sainsbury's in Instone Road on Monday. The victim, from Hextable, near Dartford, has not yet been named.

Her daughter was also hurt in the incident but suffered only minor injuries. A 10-year-old girl, who was not related to the victim, also suffered a fractured leg and bruising.

Police would particularly like to speak to a taxi driver who gave his name as Barry but left the scene before a statement could be taken. Anyone with information, should contact Sgt Peter Cornwell on 01322 280055.

Officers are hoping witness boards at the supermarket and an analysis of CCTV camera footage may help their investigation.

A 78-year-old man, from Dartford, was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident and later released pending further enquiries.
