A2 closed in both directions due to overturned car near M25 at Dartford

The A2 has been closed in both directions following a serious collision involving an overturned car.

It happened on the coastbound carriage way near to the junction with the M25 at Dartford.

The coastbound carriageway is currently closed with the Londonbound carriageway also shut to allow the air ambulance to land.

On the coastbound side there is currently congestion to the Falconwood Interchange with solid queues through Bexley, Crayford and Barnes Cray as people divert. Traffic heading Londonbound is tailed back to the Ebbsfleet junction.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Patrols are at the scene of a serious collision involving a car on the coastbound carriageway of the A2 near Dartford.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to incident near the junction with the M25, at 10.32am.

"The coastbound carriageway of the A2 is currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

"The Londonbound carriageway is also closed to allow the air ambulance to land."

There are still severe delays with queueing traffic and congestion backing up to the M25 clockwise down to J3, Swanley.

Routes through Bexley and Bexleyheath are also extremely congested.
