Lilywhites manager Ray Turner is focused on making history when Faversham visit Cray Wanderers in the FA Cup first qualifying round on Sunday.

Town face the Ryman League, Premier Division Wands at Bromley’s Hayes Lane (3pm) with the prospect of a place in the Salters Lane record books at stake.

Town’s best FA Cup performance is reaching the second qualifying round, which they did four times in the mid-70s, and once in 1991/92 and Turner said: “It might sound dramatic but I want to make history with this club.

“I want us to go further than we ever have before and put us on the map.”

He added: “It’s a game to look forward to, testing ourselves against a higher-level opponent.

“There’s £3,000 in prize-money and I suppose for clubs like us, that’s where the real glory of the cup comes in.

“You’re not going to earn that sort of money from gate money so you just have to try and get through a couple of rounds and hope you get a big team when they come into it.”

Town go into the game on something of a low after a surprise 2-1 Division 1 South defeat at Redhill on Tuesday burst the bubble created by inflicting a first defeat on title-chasing Hastings on Saturday.

Turner said: “It was frustrating. As good as we were on Saturday, we were poor on Tuesday. Cray were there watching and wouldn’t have gone away too worried.

“We had some momentum going but Tuesday has killed it off again. I won’t get too down, though.

“We’ll try and get the boys back up again for Sunday and one thing is that the boys will know, if they didn’t already, that they are going to have to work hard and earn everything they get.

“It is a wake-up call, if we needed one.”

Faversham sit fifth, five points off the top, with four wins and three defeats from eight games and Turner said: “It also makes our start in the league an average one, rather than the good one it would have been with another win.”

Renford Tenyue’s work commitments rule him out of the Cray game while Lacy serves the second game of his suspension.

James Peacock (back) will be assessed before the game.

Should neither Faversham nor Dulwich Hamlet require an FA Cup replay, they will contest the Ryman League charity shield at Champion Hill on Tuesday night.
