Rugby club celebrate dream cup tie

CANTERBURY Rugby Club have been given a plum draw in the fifth round of the Powergen Trophy, away to London Welsh.

The London side, once graced by the likes of Wales legends J.P.R. Williams, Gerald Davies, John Dawes, John Taylor and Mervyn Davies, are languishing at the foot of National League 1 with one win from six games.

However, Canterbury, who play in London 1, would have to bridge a gap of three divisions if they were to cause an upset and stay on an unlikely course for a Twickenham final.

The match will take place at Old Deer Park, Richmond, on November 5.

Canterbury qualified by winning at home to National 3 South side Hertford, 33-12, on Saturday, their second win over a team from the national divisions in this campaign.

London Welsh have had a bye to this stage of the competition.
