OLYMPIC sailing double gold medallist Shirley Robertson is to visit Kent on Thursday, June 9.

The leader of the self-styled "three blondes in a boat" with Sarah Webb and Sarah Ayton, Robertson became the first British woman to win gold at successive Olympics with their triumph in the Yngling class in Athens last year.

Robertson will be talking about her career at Lipscomb Volvo, Ashford Road, Chartham, near Canterbury. A limited number of invitations are available to the public.

Volvo, who sponsored her team, and fellow gold medallist Ben Ainslie, rewarded her victory with the gift of an XC90 car, like the one she had used to tow her boat during the pre-Olympic training campaign.

Robertson said: "Volvo has been much more than a sponsor. It's all about team work and Volvo was most definitely part of our gold medal winning team."

Anyone wishing to attend the evening is asked to telephone Louise Baker on 01227 732250.
