Herne Bay boss Sam Denly says he cannot wait for the season to start, despite the transfer revolving door at Winch’s Field continuing to spin.

Denly, who has taken over the reins from Simon Halsey, agreed the return of wideman and fans’ favourite Dan Lawrence from Faversham this week.

Among those to leave Bay this summer are Byron Walker, Rhys Lawson, Tom Bryant and Sam Bewick, while those coming in include Lawrence and defender Joe Kane. Gary Sayer, Dean Grant, Josh Sergeant and James and Michael Turner are all returning to the club.

Denly said: “It’s been another busy week. I am still speaking to players and hopefully there will be more signings to come.

“When I first took over I had a list of five players I wanted here for next season and Dan was the fourth.

“I am still talking to the other one and I am also on the lookout for a proven, quality striker – but then I suppose everyone wants the same.

“I’m building bridges with other clubs and talking to managers about the possibility of loans through the season, too.”
