Captain Chris Hinkins has his sights set on a top six finish after helping Canterbury Rugby Club secure a 29-16 win at Barking in National League 3 South on Saturday.

Hinkins scored the game’s opening try as Canterbury opened up a 21-point lead at half-time.

Despite a spirited second-half comeback from the home side, Canterbury held out to take the points.

Hinkins said: "Barking have surprised a couple of teams this season and, on their day, they can be a good side.

"All the players realise that we’re at the wrong end of the table but it was nice to finish the year with a win. It takes us into the new year on a bit of a high."

With players coming back from injury and the expected arrival of new signing Chris Coleman from New Zealand in January, Hinkins is confident his side can start pushing up the table.

He added: "Winning at home is massive. We also need to pick up the odd result away.

"We should be looking to finish fifth or sixth. We have lost to teams around us who we should be beating.

"Things haven’t gone our way and we have not performed as well as we should have done."
