Fulton: Championship is out of reach

KENT'S four-day captain David Fulton has admitted that the Frizzell County Championship Division 1 title is beyond them after they could only manage a draw against Leicestershire.

Kent contrived to put 10 catches down during the crucial match at St Lawrence and Fulton admitted his side wasn’t good enough to win.

He said: "The title’s gone now but we were up against it anyway. Whether the title is mathematically possible or not we will keep playing hard. It was disappointing because a couple of heads did go down. That's the first time that’s happened this season, but we had a serious chat afterwards and we've still got three games left.

“People tipped us to go down at the beginning of the year but we’re right up there and we’ve been one of the best teams in this competition but we haven't been good enough to win it.The bottom line is we dropped 10 catches. It really was just a pantomime out there at times.

Fulton added that the influence of Steve Waugh had been a big boost to the dressing room. “He's been fantastic and fitted in really well,” he added. “He was obviously frustrated but when he takes the field he’s usually got the likes of Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Jason Gillespie and Brett Lee and these guys can usually flatten a team.”

Kent are without a game this week and return to action on Sunday when they travel to New Road to take on the Wochestershire Royals.
