FOUR golfers still have hopes of representing the Kent Messenger Group in the national Sunshine Golf Challenge in Portugal this November.

Deangate Ridge four-handicapper Craig Hughes, the Kent 2002 champion, will play Gary Tottman (h8, Canterbury) while Wrotham Heath's David Jenner (h11) takes on Barry Barnsley (h24, Royal Cinque Ports).

The matches will be held on Thursday, October 7, at Canterbury Golf Club where the players battle it out for the right to become the 13th Kent Messenger Sunshine Golf Challenge champion and play the other regional newspaper champions on some of the Algarve's finest courses over three rounds of competition golf.

Quarter final results: Barry Barnsley (h24, Royal Cinque Ports) beat Anthony Jeffery (h20, Lullingstone Park) 4&3, Craig Hughes (h4, Deangate Ridge) beat Andy Smith (h5, Kings Hill) by walkover, David Jenner (h11, Wrotham Heath) beat Graham Miles (h7, Boughton) 4&2, Gary Tottman (h8, Canterbury) beat Shane Wilson (h9, Herne Bay) 3&1.
