England man Jones back for Kent

GERAINT JONES: returns from international duty

KENT captain David Fulton will hope to build on his side's shock opening round championship win over Gloucestershire with the visit of newly-promoted Worcestershire to Canterbury today.

Kent will make just one change for the match, welcoming back wicketkeeper Geraint Jones from England duty to replace understudy Niall O'Brien.

Fulton has a steely nerve and readiness to gamble in order to get his table-topping side off to a good start in 2004 as yesterday's seven-wicket win in rain-hit Bristol testified.

A deal was struck with Gloucestershire's Chris Taylor leaving Kent, after a double forfeiture, to successfully chase 302 with more than 19 overs in hand.

"I am delighted because that' as good a run chase as I have seen in my time at Kent," said Fulton after the 14-point win.

"We didn't do ourselves justice in this game in the field or with the ball, but that was a thoroughly professional job with the bat.

"Michael Carberry batted brilliantly and that hundred meant a lot to him. Rob Key showed what a mature cricketer he is nowadays with another fantastic hundred."

He stressed; "It is a good start, but that is all it is. Let's move on and do well against Worcestershire now."

Key said: "It's the first time I have guided us home to victory and that was very satisfying. Michael Carberry came in and played some outstanding shots at the other end and took the pressure off.

"I have worked hard this winter to start afresh and Simon Willis (Kent coach) deserves as much credit as me because he has thrown me a lot of balls down in the nets this winter to help sharpen my game. I have a technique now that will hold me in good stead when times do get a little tough."
