Canterbury 19 Ealing 48

Canterbury slumped to their biggest defeat in National League 3 South when they were humbled 48-19 at Merton Lane by Ealing.

The West London visitors are among the promotion favourites this season and showed their class by running in eight tries.

Canterbury made a promising start as Mike Melford kicked ahead for a try after just two minutes but despite a second try, scored by skipper Chris Hinkins and converted by Gert de Kock, the home side trailed by 10 points at the break.

Led by Owen Bruynseels, who completed a hat-trick, Ealing seized control in the second period before a rare visit to Ealing territory brought Canterbury a minor consolation score from Pat Sykes, converted by De Kock.

Westcombe Park were beaten 40-5 by Cambridge in National 2.
