Clewlow aiming to finish Games on a high

Canterbury's Mel Clewlow and her Great Britain team-mates, bow out of the Olympic hockey tournament on Friday when they face Australia in the fifth place play-off match in Beijing.

Clewlow started all five of Britain’s pool games, grabbing a penalty corner equaliser during the 2-2 draw with Argentina on August 12, as the team finished third, three points off a semi-final qualification spot.

Britain’s campaign began with a disastrous 5-1 defeat against Germany before their draw with the South Americans.

They went on to claim 2-1 victories over New Zealand and Japan before rounding off their pool matches with a 0-0 stalemate against the USA.

Clewlow’s Canterbury club-mate Jen Wilson was a member of the South African team which lost all five of their pool games. They lost 6-0 to Holland, 3-0 to China, 1-0 to Australia and Spain, and 5-2 to Korea.
