Two-goal Wayne Fittall takes on the Romney defence

Wayne Fittall struck twice as Canterbury City maintained their unbeaten record in Vandanel Kent County League, Division 1 East after securing a 3-1 win against New Romney.

City produced an impressive first half performance and were 3-0 up at half-time.

Fittall opened the scoring after 20 minutes after Calum McGeehan,Ben Smith and Alex Hossick had combined and 10 minutes later McGeehan doubled the home side’s lead with a long-range shot.

Fittall made it 3-0 before the break with a well-taken strike and all Romney mustered in reponse was a second-half penalty converted by Chris Tayler-Ryall.

Manager Dave Fairclough said: “I thought we played some of the best football of all season on Saturday. The lads are keen to go through the whole term unbeaten in the league, which is a great incentive.”

City are at home to Staplehurst in another league game on Saturday (kick-off 2.45pm).
