CANTERBURY recorded their fourth straight National League 3 South win in a roller-coaster game during which they almost squandered a big first half lead.

Kieron Lewitt kicked a penalty early on to put the city club in the lead and Michael Melford extended it when he burst onto a Lewitt pass to slice through for the score.

Miles Littlechild outran the defence to add a second try in first-half stoppage time before Lewitt notched his second conversion.

Handling errors by Canterbury were punished with a Park try after the break and within five minutes another converted try had brought them within five points of the hosts.

Canterbury hit back with a penalty from Lewitt but Gert De Kock was caught in possession and Park were able to run in another score to put the game on a knife edge.

However, despite being only a point ahead, Canterbury refused to crumble and Melford raced down the wing to finish a fine move and the city club’s defence held firm late on.
