Keith Bird quits as boss of Southern Counties East Premier Division basement boys Canterbury City ahead of trip to Whitstable Town

Keith Bird has resigned as the manager of Canterbury City.

Bird quits with City bottom of the Southern Counties East Premier Division at Christmas ahead of their derby at Whitstable on Tuesday.

“From immediate effect, Keith Bird has resigned as manager of CCFC,” a brief initial statement on Thursday read.

“The club would like to thank Keith for all his hard work.

"A full statement will be issued shortly.”

Bird, a former chairman of Holmesdale, was appointed in January.

But this season, they have only earned three wins and 12 points from 18 league fixtures, and they are four points adrift at the foot of the table.

Their last win came on November 5, beating Fisher 3-1, before four successive defeats.

City's next home game at Woodstock will be on January 2 against Lordswood, kick-off will be at 2pm.
